Your role in managing a Charter of Victims’ Right complaint

The Charter of Victims’ Rights is now under the Victims’ Commissioner and Sexual Violence Review Board Act 2024.

Victims of violent crime have the right to complain if their rights under the Charter of Victims’ Rights have not been upheld. They can either:

If a victim makes a complaint or wants to make a complaint under the Charter of Victims’ Rights, they must be given information about the procedure for making a complaint under the Victims’ Commissioner and Sexual Violence Review Board Act 2024 (the Act).

The victim should be given information about the victim’s choice to make a complaint to the entity concerned or to the Office of the Victims’ Commissioner.

If a victim has already made a complaint with your entity but wants the Office of the Victims’ Commissioner to consider it, your entity can send the complaint to the Office of the Victims’ Commissioner.  Email their complaint to Contact@victimscommissioner.qld.gov.au.

If the victim would like your entity to consider the complaint, refer them to your entity’s complaint handling policies and procedures.

Queensland Government entities also have reporting requirements  under the Victims’ Commissioner and Sexual Violence Review Board Act 2024.
