Executive leadership programs

Complete the Executive leadership programs to develop your leadership, management and policy skills.

In partnership with the Queensland Public Sector Commission, the Australian and New Zealand School of Government (ANZSOG) provides a range of executive leadership programs to develop the leadership, management and policy skills of the Queensland public sector.

ANZSOG’s executive leadership programs provide a unique environment to help public sector leaders to strengthen their capabilities, engage deeply in a professional community, build a better understanding of their own leadership, and take the next step in their careers.

Each executive leadership program has a different focus and are designed for public servants at different stages of their careers. Programs combine academic and practical content and bring together a cohort of public sector professionals from across jurisdictions, giving participants a vibrant network for the future.

The ANZSOG Executive Fellows program (EFP) is a two-week residential program for executives and chief executives (e.g. SES 3 and above or equivalent) to further develop leadership, management and relational skills, in particular, the capacity to work across boundaries and engage internationally.

The program includes three modules (two three-day sessions and one two-day session), an orientation session and a pre-module check-in session. Senior leaders will be part of a program designed to provide a space for self-reflection and a broader understanding of the volatile public sector environment. The program's three intensive modules focus on 'Leading the Self and Other', 'Leading an Organisation' and 'Systems Leadership'. Participants are encouraged to bring their own experiences and challenges to the program.

You must be a senior executive with a classification of SES3 and above or equivalent, or be a chief executive, to complete this program.

The ANZSOG Executive Master of Public Administration (EMPA) is a two-year part-time masters degree. It is designed to equip Program leaders and executives (e.g. A08 to SES 2 levels or equivalent) with the leadership, management and policy skills needed in today’s public sector.

The program includes eight core subjects delivered by ANZSOG and three elective subjects delivered by a preferred university. Each subject consists of 24 hours of instructional and 86 hours of study time, reading and assignment work. It combines theory and practice to give participants the skills, networks and knowledge they need to become confident, critical thinkers, ready to lead in a complex environment.

You must have a classification level of A08 to SES2 or equivalent to enrol in this program.

Participants will examine their own leadership and their organisation to help them develop a renewed strategic outlook and an ability to reflect on themselves and their work. They will gain political astuteness, personal resilience, and the capacity to reflect, collaborate, lead and learn continuously.

You must have a classification level of A08 and above to enrol in this program.
