Information privacy

Queensland Government agencies collect personal information to deliver a wide range of services to Queenslanders.

Your agency is likely to have legal obligations in relation to the way it handles personal information.

Legislation

The Information Privacy Act 2009 provides a framework for the fair collection and handling of personal information. You must take reasonable steps to make people aware of certain things before, or as soon as practicable after, you collect personal information.

The way you raise awareness of these matters will depend on the context of the collection (how and from whom). Many agencies use written or verbal statements to raise general awareness of the matters prescribed by IPP 2.
