Professional development for procurement graduates

Queensland Government Procurement is committed to supporting procurement graduates across the sector.

We recognise the importance of assisting you to connect with your peers and other practitioners in the procurement discipline.

Graduates play an important role in the drive to deliver great procurement outcomes that align with the Queensland Government’s strategic objectives of:

  • leveraging procurement spend to support local industry, skills development and manufacturing
  • using procurement to drive sustainable economic growth, encourage innovation and build a diverse supplier base
  • delivering better outcomes through purposeful public procurement considerations
  • delivering excellent outcomes through leading best-in-class procurement policy and practice.

Future Leaders graduate program

From 2026, the Future Leaders Graduate Program (formerly known as Policy Futures) will include procurement graduates.

This award-winning, 2-year Queensland Government program provides graduates the opportunity to rotate across government agencies, gaining exposure to diverse policy environments, including procurement policy, while learning from experts in the field.

The program offers:

  • structured learning
  • professional mentoring
  • peer support
  • networking opportunities to help develop Queensland's future procurement and policy leaders.

Introductory courses

These short introductory eLearning courses can be accessed at no cost from your agency's learning management system (LMS):

  • Introduction to Procurement
  • Introduction Contract Management
  • Introduction to Social Procurement.

Continuing professional development and professional associations

It is important for anyone starting out in a new profession to establish a relationship with a relevant professional association. Professional associations are industry-specific groups where members can network and share knowledge. They also help to maintain standards and act as an advocate for their industry.

Professional associations provide members access to events including conferences and workshops, as well as low cost or free training and webinars.
