RIT Fortnightly Newsletter - Proclamation update - Welcome SES and MRQ - June 2024
Find out more about the Disaster and Emergency Services Reform.
As you know, we are working towards transitioning SES to QPS no later than 1 July 2024.
As we prepare for the festive season, it is a time of reflection on the year gone by and plan for what we want to achieve in the new year. Stephen Dabinett, Business Reform Coordinator from the Reform Implementation Taskforce and Acting Assistant Commissioner Brian Cox from the State Emergency Service came together to record a video on their reflections.
This month a decision was made for SES to have its own stand-alone RTO. The new model will still see QPS Academy overseeing compliance and audit activities for the RTO, as they were before. In addition, a decision was made for SES to have its own instance of aXcelerate, rather than including the future Marine Rescue Queensland (MRQ) entity within QPS. No doubt this is great news for SES, as it will allow greater flexibility for training in the future.
We also established the training sub-working group which consists of representatives from QPS, SES and QFES School. The purpose of this sub-working group is to support the implementation of the Machinery of Government (MoG) changes in relation to our transition training to QPS. It will ensure training materials and resources are transitioned in a coordinated way, support the implementation of a minimum viable version of aXcelerate and work to establish the RTO in time for transition.
In the future, we are also recruiting for roles to help optimise our training approach. Once these are advertised, your Change Champions will have the details if you are interested in applying. These additional roles will support optimising training, once we transition, based on your feedback from the Training Townhalls earlier in the year.
At the end of the year, it is time to reflect on just how busy the CCN has been since its inception in September this year. Acting as conduits to help with the flow of information about the transition, their efforts have a played a significant role increasing the knowledge and understanding of our staff and volunteers about the transition. With over 120 engagements across SES, the CCN have helped shape our understanding of both the sentiment and the readiness of SES for the transition.
As we look ahead to 2024, with just over 100 working days left before the changes come into effect, the next steps will be to consider the impacts of those critical corporate services that will be provided by QPS and how SES will interact with QPS in this space. Our CCN will work with leaders locally to help identify those people who will need to be supported to know about policies, procedures and corporate systems that will be utilised as we move into these new arrangements. More about this in the new year. Finally, we would like to thank our CCN for their work in 2023 – you have been amazing.
