Manage telecommunications infrastructure and radio waves
Increased use of mobile and wireless technologies that use radio waves has led to more telecommunications infrastructure being installed on and in government buildings.
These radio waves emit energy known as radiofrequency (RF) electromagnetic energy (EME).
Research by the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency and World Health Organisation has found no proven adverse human health effects at low levels.
However, to help manage any potential risks associated with RF EME, we have created guidelines to help building managers, owners, lease managers and facility maintenance staff make decisions about safe and healthy building strategies.
The previous published 2020 guidelines are currently under review.
