About cultural capability

Overview

Cultural capability is the integration of knowledge about individuals and groups of people into specific standards, policies, practices and attitudes to produce better outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Cultural Capability Framework

The Cultural Capability Framework is underpinned by the five public sector principles, which will enable Queensland’s public service to become the most responsive and respected in Australia.

Principles of the Cultural Capability Framework

The Principles of the Cultural Capability Framework are 'Valuing culture', 'Leadership and accountability', 'Building cultural capability to improve economic participation', 'Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander engagement' and 'Culturally responsive systems and services'.

Governance

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Agency Leaders committee (CAL) was formed to support the development and implementation of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Capability Framework.

Cultural Capability Action plans and reporting

Building culturally capable government agencies and funded organisations will achieve better outcomes for Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples by providing efficient and responsive services.

Moving Ahead Workforce Planning Framework

Departments are responsible for developing their own Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce planning.
