A message from the Premier: Mid Year Fiscal and Economic Review update

A message from the Premier to the Queensland public sector about the Mid Year Fiscal and Economic Review.

Hi everyone and welcome to 2025.

Thanks all for the work that you’ve done. I wanted to provide you an update because today the Treasurer will be handing down the Mid Year Fiscal and Economic Review and it does make for some sober reading but it shows there are challenges ahead but challenges we can overcome and I wanted to start by thanking everyone for the work that you’ve done in providing services to Queensland and I wanted to speak a little bit about the challenges that lie ahead and the important role that the public service will play in overcoming those challenges.

We made a lot of promises before the election around a focus on turning around service delivery and I want you to know that we remain as committed to that as ever and it’ll only happen with a secure and energised public service.

You’ll hear a lot of commentary in the days ahead but I wanted you to hear it from me that my commitment to a world-class public service and the security that comes with that remains steadfast. More than that, I want to lead a government that listens to the public service and I hope that you’ve seen interactions that prove that.

We are committed to making sure that people have a voice and that we can drive the change that Queenslanders need.

So yes, there is some grim reading in that MYFER report and it shows there are challenges with funding and delivering services and building the infrastructure that Queenslanders need. But its challenges we can overcome, and it’s challenges we must overcome together.

Thanks for what you‘ve done and I look forward to keeping you updated in the months ahead.
