QFleet policies and strategies
The Queensland Government’s fleet is an essential resource for the delivery of government services to Queenslanders.
The way we choose and use government vehicles directly affects:
- fuel consumption
- greenhouse gas emissions
- air quality
- safety
- cost.
QFleet is innovating the government’s vehicle fleet to:
- reduce environmental impacts
- provide cost-effective, fit-for-purpose fleet solutions that supports the safe delivery of essential services.
The QFleet Vehicle Emissions Reduction Strategy 2025–2030 (ER Strategy) was introduced on 10 March 2025, replacing the QFleet Electric Vehicle Transition Strategy 2023-2026. This removed the mandate to transition all eligible QFleet passenger vehicles to zero emission vehicles by 31 December 2026.
This allows more time for agencies to implement the required EV charging infrastructure to:
- support existing EV commitments
- provide more flexibility with vehicle leases.
With a firm focus on reducing emissions of QFleet's entire fleet, the ER Strategy plays an important part in reducing vehicle tailpipe emissions.
The ER strategy:
- explains how QFleet will reduce its fleet emissions in a practical and sustainable manner
- has in place steps to assist agencies in reducing their fleet’s emissions
- explains how QFleet will continue to encourage agencies in adopting vehicle management policies and operational procedures to optimise the use of motor vehicles.
Supporting resources
- The QFleet Emissions Reduction Journey 2010–2025 and beyond is a roadmap showing the journey QFleet has been on more for than a decade to reduce emissions.
- The QFleet Utilisation Standard is designed to help agencies in the management of their fleet resources. The Standard explains how agencies can reduce their fleet’s emissions through serious consideration of fleet optimisation and vehicle utilisation to deliver value for money outcomes in the use and management of fleet assets.
- The QFleet Driver companion guide outlines an agency’s responsibilities in looking after the vehicle, includes driver safety tips and procedures to follow in the event of an emergency or incident as well as a full list of service providers and return agents.
- The Use of Government Owned Motor Vehicles and Parking of Private Vehicles on Official Premises policy prescribes the use of Queensland Government-owned motor vehicles by employees of Queensland Government departments, public service offices and public sector units.
