RIT Fortnightly Newsletter - Proclamation update - Welcome SES and MRQ - June 2024
Find out more about the Disaster and Emergency Services Reform.
Welcome to the second of a series of RIT Disaster Management newsletters!
The Disaster Management Project Team (the Team) working to achieve a successful implementation and transition of disaster management functions and staff to the Queensland Police Service (QPS) is achieved.
We’re in our 13th week and the planning phase is continuing to ramp up.
We’re committed to sharing regular updates with you on the progress of the Disaster Management transition.
A Townhall will be conducted on Monday 24 July 2023 from 14:00-15:00 at the Kedron Auditorium and virtual through MS Teams. This is an opportunity for you to hear in more detail what the RIT is doing to support the transition and ask any questions.
The session is being recorded and will be available to watch on ForGov.
If you have any questions that you would like to submit ahead of the event, please submit them through our online feedback form.
All employee screening forms have now been received. We appreciate the huge effort by everyone to help ensure all the forms were submitted on time.
The QPS HR and Vetting teams are currently reviewing the employee screening forms. We understand that the vetting outcomes may be causing some angst and appreciate your patience. Vetting can take several weeks, particularly for employees with experience across other government departments and/or have lived interstate and/or internationally.
Everyone will be advised on their outcome as they are finalised.
The Emergency Management Coordination Command (EMCC) Organisational Structure is still under development, and is due to be finalised in the coming weeks.
To support the new EMCC, the Assistant Commissioner, Chief Superintendent, Director and two Superintendent positions have been advertised and the recruitment process is underway. Additionally, the support officers for these positions are also under advertisement. These positions will support the transition and once recruitment is finalised will begin preparations to stand up the new command.
We can confirm that the structure is being reviewed to ensure all areas of Emergency Management are supported.
We are continuing with our partner agencies to finalise the details around transition planning.
Each working group (Finance, ICT, Human Resources and Industrial Relations, Accommodation, Fleet Management, Procurement, Legal and Disaster Management Subject Matter Experts) has been tasked to develop their transition milestones for input into the Disaster Management Transition Plan.
We are looking forward to sharing more information and transition details by the end of July.
The QPS ICT team will be sending out an ICT Requirements survey to the managers of the teams nominated to transition in October 2023.
The survey will help finalise the technology transition plan and confirm details for people, equipment, data, and technical resources to ensure all required services are covered in the transition.
As part of the Transition Planning a 2-day induction is being created to ensure you have a seamless transition into your new parent agency. If there are certain items you feel will be critical to understand in the initial days please submit your feedback through our online feedback form.
The uniform options for transitioning staff are continuing to be finalised. A report with recommendations will be submitted for senior executive for approval. The uniform team are working towards a decision by mid-August with uniforms expected to arrive by mid-October.
Given the critical importance of the employment screening checks that you are currently undergoing, we encourage you to actively engage with the RIT. Reach out to us, seek guidance, and share any concerns or questions you may have regarding the transition.
The Disaster Management Myth Busters have been updated and will continue to be a point of truth for any questions you may have.
Our dedication to assisting you in navigating through this process is taken seriously, and we are here to support you.
Contact our team through our online feedback form.
Thank you for your continued dedication and commitment to the success of the disaster management transition.
Sincerely,
John Bosnjak
