Summary

To provide information on the appeal rights of public service employees under the Public Service Act 2008 (PS Act).

This directive has been updated to support the Review of public sector employment laws. The review was commissioned by the government to ensure Queenslanders have the most responsive, consistent and reliable public service possible.

What has changed in this directive?

What’s new Previous directive
Movement of public service appeals to the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission under the jurisdiction of the Industrial Relations Act 2016. Queensland Industrial Relations Commission jurisdiction is under the Public Service Act 2008.
New appeal provision with an appeal against a direction made by the Public Service Commission Chief Executive in relation to an employee-initiated review to the extent the direction affects the employee. No equivalent as review does not currently exist.
New appeal provision to appeal suspension without pay decision. Fair treatment appeal for suspension without pay.
New appeal provision for two-year review of higher duties for appointment to higher classification. No equivalent as review does not currently exist.
