Act, Connect & Prevent: Recognise and respond to workplace sexual harassment and related conduct

We all have the right to feel safe, respected and included at work and the responsibility to treat each other with respect.

Sexual harassment and related conduct are harmful, unlawful and have no place in our Queensland public sector workplaces.

Everyone plays an important role.

Act, Connect & Prevent eLearning program

The Public Sector Commission has developed the Act, Connect & Prevent eLearning program for all Queensland public sector employees.

The training aims to ensure a shared understanding of what is expected in our workplaces and to build your confidence to act if you witness or experience behaviour which doesn’t meet those expectations.

Everyone has the right to be safe at work.

We also have the responsibility to treat others with respect.

There is zero tolerance for sexual harassment and related conduct in any of our workplaces.

It's harmful, it's unlawful, and there's no place for it in the Queensland public sector

Your leaders are committed to creating a positive workplace culture of respect and inclusion, free of inappropriate behaviour, and everyone plays an important role in making this happen.

All Queensland public sector employees will be provided with training.

The focus is to ensure that we all have a shared understanding of what respectful behaviour looks like and what is expected in our workplaces.

It also aims to build your confidence and ability to identify and appropriately respond to sexual harassment and related conduct at work, whether that's for yourself or for a colleague.

We all have a part to play because only together can we create and sustain a positive culture of respect and inclusion and ensure everyone feels safe at work across our sector.

Let's lead the way Queensland.

When implemented in your workplace, this training helps:

  1. Raise awareness

Awareness helps employees recognise the different ways workplace sexual harassment can occur, as well as why it’s harmful. It ensures everyone understands the importance of preventing such behaviour in the workplace.

  2. Promote respect and dignity

A positive work environment is fostered naturally when employees treat each other with respect and dignity. A respectful workplace helps everyone, regardless of age, gender, location or seniority, feel safe and included. In turn, this improves teamwork and morale.

  3. Understanding of rights and responsibilities

Learning about their rights and responsibilities in a safe workplace helps teams behave appropriately. This clarity helps prevent misunderstandings and ensures everyone knows what is expected of them.

  4. Prevent harm

By educating staff on the appropriate steps to take, the training can stop inappropriate behaviour before it escalates into harassment. Preventing harm protects individuals’ wellbeing and maintains a healthy workplace culture.

  5. Provide trauma-informed and person-centred support

Your team will learn how to support colleagues who may experience harassment and how to respond appropriately. It also provides clear steps for reporting incidents, ensuring people who have experienced or witnessed unlawful conduct feel heard and supported.

  6. Improve legal compliance

Providing this training helps the agency meet its positive duty obligations to actively prevent sexual harassment and inappropriate behaviour. It actively demonstrates the organisation’s commitment to upholding ethical and legal standards for positive, respectful and inclusive workplaces.

  7. Improve workplace culture

A workplace free from harassment is one where teams feel valued and motivated to contribute. The training helps build a culture of belonging, trust and open communication, where employees are free to be themselves at work.

  8. Reduce risks

Preventing harassment reduces the likelihood of complaints, investigations and legal action, saving the agency time and resources. It also protects the organisation’s reputation and fosters public trust.

  9. Boost confidence

Employees feel more confident knowing their leaders and greater workplace take harassment seriously and have clear processes to address it. This confidence improves job satisfaction and encourages staff to perform at their best.

  10. Encourage accountability

The training ensures everyone is held accountable for their actions, creating a fair and professional environment. Accountability builds trust both among employees and towards their leaders and strengthens the organisation as a whole.
